Huge milestone for OFALA's own Steven Powers!
Today, it was announced that Governor Kate Brown appointed Steven R. Powers to the Oregon Court of Appeals. Steve will be the first Filipino American appellate judge in Oregon.

On July 11, 2017, Governor Kate Brown announced eight appointments to fill judicial vacancies on Oregon’s courts. These appointments will be effective July 17, 2017.
Among the appointments to the Oregon Court of Appeals, the Honorable Steven R. Powers comes highly regarded. He will also be the first Filipino American appellate judge in Oregon.
Steven R. Powers is an insurance coverage and appellate lawyer at the law firm of Parsons Farnell & Grein, LLP, where he has worked since 2015. From 2011 to 2015, Mr. Powers was deputy general counsel and public safety policy advisor in the Office of the Governor. Mr. Powers served as a Deputy District Attorney for Multnomah County, and appellate attorney at the Oregon Department of Justice, and as Chairperson of the Oregon Board of Parole and Post-Prison Supervision.
Mr. Powers began his legal career as a petitions law clerk at the Oregon Supreme Court and he is a graduate of Western State College Colorado and a law graduate from Willamette University College of Law. He is a founding board member of the Oregon Filipino American Lawyers Association.
Service on the Oregon Court of Appeals is an honor granted by the citizens of Oregon. The Oregon Court of Appeals consistently ranks as one of the busiest appellate courts in the nation, handling – most notably death penalty cases, ballot title cases, lawyer discipline matters, and tax court cases – the Court receives appeals and judicial review from Oregon’s trial courts and administrative agencies.
